SAMURAI GIRL REAL BOUT HIGH SCHOOL

Going back in time to watch some old school anime and what did I pick? A anime about a samurai drama loving high school girl with a knock for fighting with a wooden sword. How can this turn out to be anything else than a joyfull experience?

Simple, it is by far the weirdest anime I´ve seen in a long time. We start of with two men fighting it out, then we get thrown into a high school where our main character Mitsurugi Ryoko is heading to school and being the popular girl she is she has to say hello to each and everyone.

Mostly girls for some reason, which she explains with her tall height. Then the oh so ever supportive male fan comes into play telling her that she indeed has a lot of male fans as well. But while the females admire Ryoko the boys more or less want to see her in ecchi positions…

All of a sudden a bunch of ninjas come out to challange Ryoko, since she is the K-fight champion.

What I a K-Fight you ask? The school has a new way of settling disputes, they let the people concerned fight it out with commentaries from the head principal…

Apparently Ryoko has a crush on her kendo sempai, and for some odd reason she and him seems to be the only members of the kendo club, we never see anyone else but they. Where there is a love interest there has to be a rival right? Also a sempai of Ryoko she throws her opponents of with a smile and dirty tricks.

Then we get the principal thinking that Ryoko is to strong, thus deciding on a competition, the club that defeats Ryoko will get more funds for their club and a trip to Hawaii.

Ryoko manages to win it all. But then a mystical pendant she found in the locker room starts to shine and she is brought to another dimension where a mysterious girl tells her that it is comming. And love and behold, a dragon appears and Ryoko has to fight it.

Then the ep ends.

Weird right? Apparently this other dimension is a world connected to earth and in this dimension humans can focus their energy to bring fourth their inner strength as physical objects. For Ryoko it´s a sword.

With all this we have some ordinary people, the old K-Fight champion makes his return but get´s his ass handed to him by one of the guys who first fought at the beginning of ep one.

Then we jump trough ordinary events, a swimsuit episode, rival people comming with the same abilities, but with the title “dark” set in front of the name. They get their ass handed to them and then they rebel against their leaders thanks to them sending in monsters from the other dimension.

And for some odd reason the creator decided that this would be a good way to make it into a love triangle with Ryoko finding out her beloved sempai loves another woman. She breaks down and has to find herself.

We then finally get to the last two eps and everything is “settled” in these two eps, or rather the last ep where nothing ends and the show ends with an open ending. Sure both the two guys from the very beginning of the show a long with the mysterious girl who said that Ryoko was the Demon Lord of Yenon lives in their respective worlds now.

But it´s so weird and freaky I just can´t start. It is random stuff happening, we mix in having Ryoko cosplay as a mascot for a seafood restaurang making this silly pose that shows the audience her panties every time…

I can´t describe this any better. So much just keeps getting throw at the viewer. It isn´t hard to get along and follow the storyline or so but why this approach? This is a show that would have benefited with being longer, it´s only a 13 ep long series.

I´ll throw you in to a ep so you can see the weird things happening. Some are cliché sure but it´s weird as a finishing touch. Sorry for it not being English in the sub, but it´s not that important to understand what they are saying. It is what they are doing in this part that is weird.
